Paula Thoughts on October 9
A lot of Sunday was just relaxing, unpacking, orienting ourselves.
The internet wasn't just weak, it was almost impossible, so we hung out in the
breakfast cafe for a while, using, theirs, then unpacked, read, made ourselves lunch, watched
the rain. By dinner I really wanted to go out, so we headed along
Mitchell Street in search of dinner. Mitchell Street is clearly the
place to hang out in the evening. A couple of hostels, a number of bars
with big outdoor areas and a lot of music, singing and shouting. Lots of
people enjoying themselves, but it was a bit of a relief to escape into the
quiet of Oishi-Ya. It is two-sided, one door opening into an arcade
of sorts and leading to conveyor belt sushi, and the other opening onto
Mitchell Street. That door leads into fairly standard (for the US)
Japanese food. A few differences -- the bento box came with agedashi
tofu, octopus balls, and edamame, rather than tempura and California
roll, and there were several choices of barramundi, which is caught locally.
Decor was very attractive, and all in all nice and relaxing. Then early to bed.
